The Pain

"Anybody can take pain and discomfort when you're succeeding. It's really your ability to deal with that pain, discomfort and fear and not have it negatively affect your running. It's not like you ever give up and say, 'Well I can't take this pain, I've got to back off.' It's the negative thoughts that creep in -- I'm not doing well, I'm not handling this well -- that make you back off."
